PERTH, AU – VGW is honoured to announce it will fund a specialist breast care nurse and an oncology counsellor role at Breast Cancer Care WA for the next 12 months. Driven by VGW’s desire to make a difference in their local communities, the funding will provide essential mental health support and breast care nursing services for people and families in WA – free of charge.
Breast Cancer Care WA currently operates without government funding, relying on the generosity of individuals and organisations like VGW to provide tailored support services to more than 1,900 people with a breast cancer diagnosis and their families across Western Australia this year.
Breast Cancer Care WA’s CEO, Max Clarke, expressed his appreciation for the partnership. “We are so very grateful for the support of VGW. Their generous commitment will have a direct impact on the lives of a growing number of people in WA reaching out for support. Breast Cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women in Australia, with five women diagnosed every day in WA alone. Currently, 72% of our referrals come from health professionals, highlighting both the quality of our services and the need for those services in the community,” said Mr Clarke.
VGW’s CEO, Laurence Escalante, said that the company was proud to support such a meaningful cause. “As a global company founded and headquartered in Western Australia, supporting the local community is incredibly important to us. Many of us know someone who has been impacted by breast cancer – whether it’s a colleague, friend or loved one. Breast Cancer Care WA provides vital support to individuals and families facing this disease, and it’s an honour for us to contribute to the continuation of these essential services,” said Mr Escalante.
A Breast Cancer Care WA specialist breast care nurse empowers around 140 people each year to help them understand their diagnosis, navigate health services and provide evidence-based information throughout their treatment, empowering their relationship with their health care team.
One counsellor provides mental health support for around 180 people and their families a year, helping them to manage anxiety, fear and stress, and navigate the challenges and uncertainty during treatment and beyond.
