PERTH, AUS – VGW has donated US$80,000 to support cancer research and early detection through its February Giveback Tournament held on its LuckyLand Casino brand.
Coinciding with February’s National Cancer Prevention Month in the US, the initiative saw record-breaking engagement from the LuckyLand Casino player community on 28 February. As a result, VGW has provided US$40,000 each to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Prevent Cancer Foundation®.
The tournament marked VGW’s inaugural partnership with the Virginia-based Prevent Cancer Foundation, the only U.S. nonprofit organisation solely dedicated to cancer prevention and early detection. The US$40,000 donation will support the Foundation’s programs, including research grants, fellowships, and their signature Early Detection = Better Outcomes initiative, which provides resources to help people learn about cancer screenings and understand their risks.
The Giveback Tournament model allows players to engage with their favourite games, while VGW provides philanthropic funding based on achieving player engagement milestones and community participation.
“At VGW, we take great pride in aligning our Giveback initiatives with causes that resonate deeply with our players, local communities and our global team,” said Mats Johnson, Acting Chief Executive Officer at VGW. “By supporting both the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the Prevent Cancer Foundation, we are able to contribute to the full spectrum of the fight against cancer—from innovative prevention and early detection to world-leading research for a cure.”
Kyra Meister, Director of Communications at the Prevent Cancer Foundation, said: “We are honoured to launch this initiative with VGW. These proceeds will help support and advance our work, including efforts to provide evidence-based resources and expand cancer screening access to medically underserved communities. We are so grateful to VGW for their partnership in helping people stay ahead of cancer through prevention and early detection.”
Continuing a long-standing partnership with California-based Prostate Cancer Foundation, the world’s leading philanthropic organisation dedicated to funding life-saving prostate cancer research, VGW’s US$40,000 donation will fund innovative research to improve outcomes for the one in eight men and one in six African American men diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Additionally, this donation will contribute to PCF’s Check the Box! initiative, which aims to ensure that every man gets screened for prostate cancer with a simple prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test.
“Prostate cancer remains the most common cancer among men in the U.S. other than skin cancer,” Mr Johnson said. “We are honoured to continue our support of the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the amazing work they do. Seeing our players rally behind a mission that drives major advancements in treatment and patient support is truly inspiring.”
Gina Carithers, President and Chief Executive Officer at the Prostate Cancer Foundation, added: “We are incredibly grateful for VGW’s commitment to our shared mission. This important funding will directly fuel critical, life-saving research that accelerates new treatments that may improve outcomes for men affected by prostate cancer. As diagnoses continue to rise year-over-year, support from organisations like VGW is crucial to enable us to advance early detection, drive innovation, and ultimately transform prostate cancer care worldwide.”
